Position 1
๐ The playmaker plays a vital role in the pace and execution of his team. This position requires a high "basketball IQ" because the point guard plays the role of coach on the field by setting up the game. The playmaker directs and makes the decisions that ideally result in high percentage shots. Often referred to as a "one" position.
๐ Playmakers must have strong passing and dribbling skills. As field generals, playmakers need to make their voices heard. Gyms can be noisy, but cheerleaders need to be able to overcome the noise to set up the game and give direction.
๐ On offense, playmakers must be able to lead the way. They must also be able to go to the circle or perform a 3-point shot. In defense, they can concentrate on protecting the opposing team's best passer and place themselves in the passing lane of his player to hinder him as much as possible.

๐ As the English name suggests ("Shooting Guard"), the backs must be able to put the ball in the hoop. This position is often reserved for the best outside shooters on the team. Also known as the "two" position.
๐ But fullbacks โ also known as โTwo-Guardโ โ need more than a good three-point shot to succeed. They also need to have good movement off the ball, for example crossing screens and finding open spaces.
๐ While they don't need to be as skilled as playmakers, good dribbling skills are important. The backs can be called upon to bring the ball up. This skill also allows them to attempt their own shots from the dribble.

๐ Playing as a winger requires a mix of skills that full-backs and insides possess. The wingers must be strong and combative enough to fight physically and take rebounds. But they also need to have the agility to evade defenders, make circle cuts and shoot.

๐ The closer you get to the circle, the more complicated things get. The strong winger plays rather close to the circle and fights for rebounds and to score. This position is also known as the โfourโ position.
๐This position requires a mix of strength and size. The strong winger needs to work on his skills in the key, such as rebounding battle and post play defense. He must also be able to make good screens to help his teammates open up.
